Juniors (8-13)

Students training in Youth Karate are at an age where their development and learning lays an important foundation for their transition into adulthood. This is a period in their lives when they will benefit from the values, morals, and structure of traditional karate. Karate’s structure and certainty offers them freedom, security, and a sense of belonging when they most need it. Young people in JWK Karate learn respect for their teachers, each other, and their dojo as a special place where they learn to concentrate, do their best and discover what they are capable of achieving.

Seniors (13+)

Growth and development continue through life and many adults find direction or new meaning in life from karate training. Through commitment to training and sustained concentration they can find that karate grounds them, helps them deal with the stresses of life, and contributes to their physical, mental, and spiritual growth. The dojo can offer people a haven they can escape to for a few hours a week where they engage in hard, focused training and an order totally different to their life outside.

Slow Karate

Slow Karate is a new class that maximises the health and wellbeing benefits of karate through detailed teaching of kata. You will learn the same kata as taught in normal classes and in the same order but more slowly and carefully. There will also be more stretching, controlled breathing and meditation. There is no sparring or contact.

Private Sessions

When starting out in martial arts, it’s beneficial to have some private tuition for a few weeks so you can get a grasp on all the basics in a short amount of time. Then, when you are confident, you can join the group classes. Private sessions are also particularly useful when you would like to hone your skills in much greater detail prior to a grading. Either way, having this one-on-one attention is incredibly beneficial and highly recommended. If you’re interested in private sessions, please contact Light Sensei or speak with him after class. Private sessions may have a maximum of 2 students.
